Auditory And Cognitive Aging Research Lab
In the Auditory and Cognitive Aging Research Lab our goal is to improve communication for older people. Specifically, we focus on both the effects of bottom up (peripheral hearing) and top-down (central processes) processing on older people’s ability to perceive speech and successfully use hearing aids. The long term goal of our work is to improve clinical hearing aid fitting protocols and algorithms to increase the benefit and satisfaction of amplification in older adults.
Currently, we are investigating auditory selective attention performance in younger and older Hispanic bilinguals, speech recognition in noise performance in older and younger listeners’ first and second languages, and attitudes about hearing loss and hearing aid use among Hispanics living on the U.S.-Mexico border.
