Marissa Diaz
Marissa Alejandra Diaz is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor and the Lighting and Sound Shop Supervisor at the University of Texas at El Paso. She is a proud native El Pasoan who earned her BFA at UTEP with a concentration in Lighting Design and went on to earn her MFA in Drama at the University of California-Irvine. While in California, Marissa assisted professionally and designed around the Orange County area. She has also had the opportunity to design at the Great River Shakespeare Festival and work at an architectural lighting company, First Circle Design Inc. At First Circle, she grew a deeper appreciation for lighting and how it can be used beyond the realm of production events. Marissa is passionate about the Hispanic culture she grew up in and adores helping tell the stories of people in the Latinx community. Her work at UCI’s production of Plumas Negras has opened the door for her love of this kind of theatre. She looks forward to continuing being a part of works like this now that she has reestablished herself in El Paso.
