Admitted Students


Congratulations on being admitted into the UTEP School of Pharmacy!

All applicants who have been admitted into the UTEP School of Pharmacy (SOP) are “conditionally admitted” students.  This means that your admission is conditional on completing the following requirements prior to matriculation in the Fall.

All students admitted to the UTEP School of Pharmacy (SOP) must complete the following requirements and submit the proper documentation (if necessary) before their Fall matriculation:

  • Submit signed Admission Acceptance Packet by the Acceptance Deadline (see your admissions email)
  • Submit $200 deposit by May 31st here
  • Official PCAT Transcript sent by Pearson and received by the SOP (order from PCAT website)
  • Official Transcripts from all higher education institutions (i.e., colleges and universities) that you attended. All summer course grades must be submitted at least five (5) business days before the first day of class.
  • Maintain required Overall GPA of 2.5 and Math/Science GPA of 3.2
  • Completed Criminal Background Check (see information below)
  • Completed Drug Screening
  • Complete immunization and titers requirements
  • Attend mandatory Orientation and Bootcamp the week prior to the first day of classes
  • Complete CPR/AED certification (see information below)
  • Complete Community Wide Orientation via El Paso Community College (EPCC) (see information below)
  • Verify Liability Insurance (see information below)

All admitted students are expected to have access to a personal computer or reccomended tablet with the capability to run ExamSoft. See specifications lower on page

Failure to fulfill any of these requirements may impact your admission into the program.  It is your responsibility to complete all stated requirements and verify that all required documentation has been received by the SOP. 

Office of Experiential Education Student Compliance Steps

Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening

  • Castlebranch, an online system that provides the services above, will contact admitted students via email with a link to fulfill these requirements about a month prior to the first day of classes. Students will be given the option to choose a location for the Drug Screening.
  • The cost of these services will be covered by the School of Pharmacy from the Major Fee.

Complete the following immunizations and titers

  •  TB Skin Test (Tuberculin)
    • Two step initially required, then once annually
    • Results must return negative. If positive skin test, a chest radiograph is required
  • Tdap Vaccine (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
    • Vaccination documentation must be provided
  • Varicella immunity titer
    • Lab report must be provided
    • If results return negative, two doses of Varicella vaccine is required (at least, 28 days apart)
  • MMR immunity titer
    • Lab report must be provided
    • If results return negative, two doses of MMR vaccine is required (at least, 28 days apart)
  • Hepatitis B series and Immunity titer
    • Vaccination documentation must be provided, 3 series
    • Hepatitis B surface Ab test lab report must be provided
  • Annual Flu Vaccine
    • Vaccination documentation must be provided
    • A current vaccination will have been received during or after August 2016

Provide proof of documentation of following prior to entering school:

  • Liability Insurance
      • Documentation required covering $2,000,000/$6,000,000 and including coverage dates
    • Enrollment in the University of Texas System endorsed malpractice insurance plan
    • UTEP covers the cost of this liability insurance. You will be notified and provided proof of coverage by the Office Experiential Education after matriculation.

Exam Soft Requirements

SofTest can be used on most modern Microsoft Windows based computers (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years), and specified tablet. Apple IPad's do not have the capability to run SofTest. Please see specific system requirements as noted below.

SofTest Windows - PC Requirements:

  • Operating System: 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10
  • Only genuine, U.S.-English, French, Portuguese, Swedish, and British versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported
  • ExamSoft does not support Tablet devices other than Surface Pro as detailed below
  • CPU Processor: 1.86Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or greater 
  • RAM: highest recommended for the operating system or 2GB
  • Hard Drive: highest recommended for the operating system or 1GB of available space
  • For onsite support, a working USB port is required (Newer devices may require an adaptor)
  • Internet connection for SofTest Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload
  • Screen Resolution must be 1024x768 or higher
  • Adobe Reader (Version 9, 11, or DC) is required for exams containing PDF attachments
  • Administrator level account permissions

Surface Pro Requirements:

  • Surface Pro 1, 2, & 4 (Non-Pro Surface devices are NOT supported)
  • Surface 3 (Pro and Non-Pro devices ARE supported)
  • External keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) required. Bluetooth keyboards must be paired prior to launching exam
  • Hard Drive: 1GB or higher available space
  • Adobe Reader XI is required for exams containing PDF attachments
  • For onsite support, a working USB port is required (Newer devices may require an adaptor)
  • Internet connection for SofTest Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload
  • Screen Resolution must be 1920x1080
  • Administrator level account permissions

SofTest Mac

  • Operating System: OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), mac OS 10.12 (Sierra). Only genuine versions of Mac Operating Systems are supported.
  • CPU: Intel processor
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Hard Drive: 1GB or higher available space
  • Server version of Mac OS X is not supported
  • For onsite support, and in order to backup the answer files to a USB, a working USB port is required (Newer devices may require an adaptor)
  • Internet connection for SofTest Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload
  • Administrator level account permissions
