The award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom.

"We have an incredible group of young ladies, both on and off the court," UTEP head coach Holly Watts said. "I couldn't be prouder of their classroom success. This group is establishing a new set of standards."

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

UTEP will open the 2017 campaign with a trio of matches in San Antonio, Texas, at the I-10 Cardinals Classic. The Miners will take on Tulane on Aug. 25 (9 a.m. MT), followed by a contest against Louisiana-Lafayette the same day (2 p.m.). The Orange and Blue will then conclude the weekend by taking on host school Incarnate Word on Aug. 26 (10 a.m.).

The home portion of the schedule will commence against Texas Tech on Aug. 30 (6 p.m.) in Memorial Gym, followed by the Glory Road Invitational (Sept. 1-2). The Miners will host New Mexico on Sept. 1 (7:30 p.m.) and will play a doubleheader on Sept. 2 against Youngstown State (1 p.m.) and North Dakota (7:30 p.m.).
