As the semester winds down, I would like to share some exciting updates in this first edition of our Woody L. Hunt College of Business Newsletter.

The most important news is that our accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has been extended for both our accounting and business programs. AACSB is the longest-serving global association dedicated to advancing management education worldwide.

The rigorous, peer-reviewed process requires extensive documentation of academic outcomes and evidence of engagement, innovation and impact in accordance with the College’s mission.

I want to congratulate and thank the College’s faculty, staff, students and partners for their contributions toward this hallmark of business excellence at UTEP. To learn more about this achievement, please click here.

In this newsletter, you will also find profiles in student and alumni excellence. Marina Monsisvais, owner of Barracuda Public Relations and recent UTEP Executive MBA graduate, shares her experience in the program and the real-time benefits of implementing coursework into her business.

Edgar Felix, a Terry Transfer Scholar and graduating senior. recently participated in UTEP's Employer-Led Professional Development Insititute (EPDI), a 6-week program open to all UTEP students that includes workshops by employers from the corporate, public, and non-profit sectors aimed at sharpening students’ professional skills.

As our faculty, research centers and institutes continue to provide timely and meaningful business insights for the Paso del Norte region and beyond, I wanted to highlight the intellectual contributions from Cynthia Halliday, Ph.D., and Jose Ablanedo Rosas, Ph.D.

Dr. Halliday’s research highlights the importance of including women on boards in relation to a company’s overall culture, while Dr. Ablanedo joined an interdisciplinary team of UTEP faculty who developed streamlined processes for COVID-19 vaccination and testing clinics across the country.

I hope this newsletter provides a quick snapshot of some of the work the College has done this semester. Since this is our first edition, I welcome your feedback and suggestions.

GO MINERS!

James E. Payne, Ph.D.
Dean
