* A pesar del nombre común similar, esta especie no está relacionada con el árbol que produce la fruta de mango bien conocida en el comercio mundial (Mangifera indica-Anacardiaceae).
Las hojas, corteza del tronco, frutos, semillas y raíz.
Este árbol de porte alto es nativo de varios países de África tropical del área centro-occidental, incluyendo el Congo, Gabón, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal y Camerún. Actualmente se cultiva en diversas regiones tropicales y subtropicales del mundo.
