Several records of screech owls were given before the splitting of eastern and western forms, but are within the geographic range currently occupied by the western species. The assumption made here is that they all are Megascops kennicotti, however the reader should be aware that those along the eastern portion of that species range (especially in New Mexico) could be of the eastern species.
