Synonyms: Bucephala albeola fossilis.
Discussion: Howard (1963) described Bucephala fossilis from Vallecito Creek. Guthrie (2010) found overlap in almost all characteristics between B. albeola and B. fossilis, leading him to consider B. fossilis as distinct only at the subspecific level.
