Dr. Erika Edwards to Lead African American Studies Program
The College of Liberal Arts welcomes Dr. Erika Edwards in her new capacity as the Program Director for the African American Studies Program.
Dr. Edwards comes from the Department of History with a research specialization in the African Diaspora and history of the Americas. She is the author of Hiding in Plain Sight: Black Women, the Law, and the Making of a White Argentine Republic (2020) which has received international acclaim and has been awarded:
- 2021 Western Association of Women’s Historians’ Barbara “Penny” Kanner Book Award
- 2020 Association of Black Women Historians’ Letitia Woods Brown Memorial Book Prize for Best Book in Black Women’s History
- 2020 Best Black History Books, AAIHS and Black Perspectives
In May 2024, Dr. Edwards was invited by the US Fulbright Specialist program and the Instituto Colombiano de Crédito Educativo y Estudios Técnicos en el Exterior (ICETEX) to La Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia where she presented on her research on Black women and their battles and resistance in the Americas.
