The University of Texas at El Paso College of Business Administration has received accreditation extensions of its accounting and business programs from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Fewer than 5% of business schools worldwide have earned the prestigious designation from AACSB. With accreditation extended for both its business and accounting programs, UTEP’s College of Business Administration is the only AACSB-accredited business school in the El Paso-Juárez region.

AACSB’s rigorous, peer-reviewed process requires extensive documentation on academic programs and evidence of engagement, innovation and impact in accordance with the college’s mission.

“AACSB recognizes UTEP’s success in providing a transformative educational experience for our business students and working professionals," said James Payne, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business Administration. “This reaffirms our role in building the economic vitality of our region through our innovative programs, community-engaged research and partnerships with industry and community leaders.”

“The AACSB accounting review team praised the multiple opportunities outside the classroom and the breadth of experiences with industry leaders globally that accounting students receive in our undergraduate and graduate programs,” said Giorgio Gotti, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems.

The college’s continued efforts to create expanded professional development and networking opportunities for its students is most evident in its corporate academy initiative — through which the college partners with global industry leaders that integrate specialized courses, industry-specific technologies and co-curricular activities in the curriculum.

The college currently partners with ADP, Lockheed Martin, and Prudential Financial for three different academies that create career pathways in high-demand fields.

In addition, the college has created community-engaged research and partnership opportunities through its various centers and institutes — the Border Region Modeling Project, the Hunt Institute for Global Competitiveness, the Center for Hispanic Entrepreneurship, the Center for Multicultural Management and Ethics and the Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce — where faculty, staff and students connect with community stakeholders and contribute to the economic growth of the Borderplex region.

AACSB is the longest serving global association dedicated to advancing management education worldwide. AACSB accredits 755 of the world’s best business schools across 51 countries and territories.
