UTEP has named John Hadjimarcou, Ph.D., the new dean of the Woody L. Hunt College of Business. Hadjimarcou has served as interim dean of the college since August of 2023.

“John has served this University for nearly three decades,” said UTEP President Heather Wilson. “I am not surprised that, following a national search, he has emerged as the right person to lead a college that is actively working to become the nation’s leader in research and scholarship on U.S.-Mexico trade.”

Hadjimarcou joined UTEP in 1994 as an assistant professor of marketing, and was appointed Chair of the Department of Marketing, Management and Supply Chain in 2006. Hadjimarcou currently serves as Endowed Chair for the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade.

"As a member of the faculty at the Hunt College of Business, and later as its interim dean, I've had the great fortune to witness the resilience and potential of our students and faculty firsthand,” Hadjimarcou said. “I am honored and thankful for this opportunity to lead our college forward, which I will do by fostering innovation and excellence in preparing our students for success in our region and beyond."

Throughout his career, Hadjimarcou has received awards for his teaching, research and service, including multiple Outstanding Research Awards from college faculty and the Business College Council. In 2010, he received the Faculty Achievement Award for Teaching, UTEP’s highest teaching honor. Hadjimarcou has since been a recipient of the prestigious University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.

His research in international marketing and strategy has been published in prestigious journals, including articles with a focus on cross-border retailing and global competitiveness. Hadjimarcou has also served in many capacities as a mentor to faculty through his work as a Fellow of the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers and the UTEP Collaborative Faculty Mentoring Program.

Hadjimarcou earned a Ph.D. in Marketing with a minor in International Business from Kent State University and an MBA and B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University, where he received a scholarship through the Fulbright Commission’s Cyprus-America Scholarship Program.

“Dr. Hadjimarcou has led and mentored students, staff, and faculty with skill and care over the years,” said John Wiebe, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. “He has built a thriving culture in his department and earned the trust and respect of his colleagues. I look forward to working with John to realize even greater success for the college at a crucial time of opportunity.”

Hadjimarcou’s new appointment will begin on April 1. He succeeds James Payne, Ph.D., who served as dean from 2019 to 2023.
