Colombia native Mauricio Gomez served in the U.S. Army before earning his degree from UTEP. He said linguistics students acquire skills such as analytical reasoning and critical thinking. Gomez is UTEP’s associate registrar for registration.
The linguistics and bilingualism program prepares graduates for Ph.D. studies in linguistics, as well as for careers in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and language teaching. Graduates can work for colleges, government agencies and as speech therapists.
