Beautiful Iran! / ¡Hermoso Irán!, 2023

I believe history must recount the efforts of people to create civilization. Their achievements, their gifts to humanity, and how they have advanced their goals throughout their lives. A nation with no intellectual goods to offer to the world will not have a place in human history. I come from Iran, a vast country with an ancient civilization in the Middle East, whose people have historically experienced extraordinary social, political and cultural events across their long history, from the emergence of the Persian Empire to the invasions of Alexander, the Arabs, Genghis Khan, and others.

It is through merging the dominant power with their own cultural heritage that the people of this land have survived these storms and maintained their history, culture, language, and their motherland: a land that once was a center for science, philosophy, poetry, architecture, and art, comparable to other ancient civilizations like Greece and Egypt.

And yet, despite its cultural wealth, Iran is currently facing a crisis.

Iran was once a respected actor until the 1980s, interacting with the world on a path of progress and peace. But 44 years ago, a bitter revolution happened, placing religious radicals in power: they continue to rule the country. They have built a dictatorship system that is trying to control the country with terror and propaganda: a regime that is standing in front of its own people and behaving with effrontery to the whole world. They have committed endless crimes, to preserve their power and wealth.

And yet, we are witnessing a brave struggle against this medieval government that has taken 80 million Iranians hostage.

In this project, you will see the beauty of my homeland, Iran, and the brutality of what is happening there. Pictures that can be used as ads to attract tourists stand in contrast to the faces of freedom fighters. I made this project out of respect for the victims of the protests that have been taking place since September 2022, following the killing of a young girl named Mehsa Amini. Protests have led to the death of at least 500 Iranians who bravely stood up against this ruthless regime and gave their lives for WOMEN, LIFE, and FREEDOM.

Creo que la historia debe contar los esfuerzos de las personas al momento de crear su civilización. Sus logros, sus aportaciones a la humanidad y cómo han avanzado en sus objetivos a lo largo de sus vidas. Una nación sin bienes intelectuales que ofrecer al mundo no tendrá un lugar en la historia de la humanidad. Vengo de Irán, un país vasto con una civilización milenaria del Medio Oriente, cuyo pueblo ha vivido acontecimientos sociales, políticos y culturales extraordinarios a lo largo de su historia, desde el surgimiento del imperio Persa hasta las invasiones de Alejandro, los árabes y Genghis Khan, entre otros.

Gracias a la fusión de los poderes dominantes con su propia herencia cultural, los habitantes de esta tierra han sobrevivido a estas tormentas y han mantenido su historia, su cultura, su lengua y su patria: una tierra que antaño fue el centro de la ciencia, la filosofía, la poesía, la arquitectura y el arte, comparable a otras civilizaciones antiguas como Grecia y Egipto.

Y sin embargo, a pesar de su riqueza cultural, Irán se enfrenta actualmente a una crisis.

Irán alguna vez representó un papel importante hasta la década de 1980, interactuando con el mundo en el camino del progreso y la paz. Pero hace 44 años se produjo una amarga revolución que colocó a radicales religiosos en el poder, y siguen gobernando el país. Han construido un sistema dictatorial que intenta controlar la nación a través del terror y la propaganda: un régimen que se enfrenta a su propio pueblo y se conduce con descaro ante el mundo entero. Han cometido un sinfín de crímenes para preservar su poder y su riqueza.

Y, sin embargo, estamos siendo testigos de una valiente lucha contra este gobierno medieval que tiene como rehenes a 80 millones de iraníes.

En este proyecto, verás la belleza de mi tierra natal, Irán, y la brutalidad de lo que está ocurriendo allí. Imágenes que pueden utilizarse como anuncios para atraer turistas contrastan con los rostros de quienes luchan por la libertad. Hice este proyecto en señal de respeto por las víctimas de las protestas que tienen lugar desde septiembre de 2022, tras el asesinato de una joven llamada Mehsa Amini. Las protestas han provocado la muerte de al menos 500 iraníes que se enfrentaron valientemente a este régimen despiadado y dieron su vida por las MUJERES, la VIDA y la LIBERTAD.
