Early Childhood/Elementary, Middle School, and All-Level Special Education
About the Program
The College of Education offers the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) for individuals who wish to become early childhood/elementary, middle school, or all-level special education Texas certified teachers. BSED students may choose from the following concentrations:
Primary Grades Education teacher certification options
- Elementary (EC-6) with ESL Certification [EESL]
- Elementary (EC-6) with Bilingual Certification [EBIL]
Middle-Grade teacher certification options
- Middle Grades (4-8) English Language Arts/Reading with ESL Certification [MLES]
- Middle Grades (4-8) English Language Arts/Reading and Social Studies with ESL Certification [MLSS]
- Middle Grades (4-8) Mathematics with ESL Certification [MMAE]
- Middle Grades (4-8) Mathematics and Science with ESL Certification [MMSC]
- Middle Grades (4-8) with ESL Supplemental Certification [MESL]
- Middle Grades (4-8) with Bilingual Certification [MBIL]
All-Levels Education teacher certification option
- Pk-12 Special Education [ASPE]
Early Childhood/Community Education Pathways (Non-Teaching certification option)
- Early Childhood Care and Education [ECCE]
- Education Community Studies [EDCS]
Secondary and All-Level Education
About the Program
Students who wish to become high school or all-levels teachers and receive an initial Texas teacher certification will pursue a major in the discipline they intend to teach with a minor/concentration in secondary or all-level education in one of the following certification areas:

Notification of potential ineligibility for certification
Any individual who has been convicted of an offense may be ineligible for issuance of a certificate upon completion of the Educator Preparation Program. For more information, please refer to the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) rules prescribed in §249.16. Individuals have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter as provided in Chapter 227, Subchapter B (relating to Preliminary Evaluation of Certification Eligibility).
