Grounds and Landscaping
The UTEP Landscaping (or Grounds) team is responsible for managing and maintaining all exterior areas on campus and at off-campus UTEP owned properties. The team is also responsible for event support. Event support involves clean up prior to and after events. Grounds support services may be charged if the event is large or requires more than simply performing the activities mentioned above or if the event requires re-landscaping the area and additional plant material. Other areas of responsibility include trash removal and assistance with new landscape development and installation.
The UTEP Landscaping team is comprised of UTEP staff and contractor staff (SSC). Temporary workers are hired seasonally to keep up with the regular day-to-day demands as well as event support and other campus needs. Hardscape cleaning is primarily done by the contractor and they do routine cleaning of the campus including trash collecting and pickup, sweeping the streets and parking garages, and cleaning and maintaining building entrances and surrounding areas from trash debris and pigeon droppings
The Landscaping team maintains all plant material in accordance with industry accepted standards including but not limited to mowing, pruning, fertilization, weed and pest control (exterior), general cleanup, planting and any other care required. This includes areas of turf grass, shrub and flower areas and associated mulches, naturalized areas and hardscape. Smaller landscape redevelopment projects are done in house. The Irrigation group maintains, adjusts, expands and repairs all irrigation systems on campus.
