Free Child Lead Testing
Eligibility Criteria:

Any child currently residing in downtown El Paso neighborhoods, ages 6 months to 15 years

Signed consent from a parent or legal guardian; child assent for children over the age of 7 years
Study Expectations:
-
Commitment of approximately 14 months during which our team will test children's blood lead levels every 3-4 months for a total of 4 tests

Home visits for screening and follow up testing of approximately 30-45 minutes

Completion of brief surveys regarding child health history, family demographics, and home characteristics
What the Study Provides:

Delivery of educational materials

Child lead exposure

Child lead hazard sources in the home environment

Simple, safe, low-cost lead mitigation methods for homeowners

Child lead screening

Using FDA-approved finger-stick blood sample collection (6-10 drops of blood from a finger-prick) child blood lead level is determined by laboratory-based ICP-MS analysis
