Barbara Lambrecht, M.M.
Flute, Music Education
Barbara Lambrecht rejoined the faculty of University of Texas at El Paso in 2018 as Visiting Assistant Professor of Flute. In her duties at UTEP, Mrs. Lambrecht will teach flute, music education, and music appreciation.
Prior to her appointment at UTEP Mrs. Lambrecht served on the faculties of New Mexico State University as Interim Associate Director of Bands/Music Education, and the University of Mary Hardin Baylor as Director of Bands/Director of Music Education. She also previously taught applied flute at UTEP.
She holds a Master of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas, where she studied flute with Mary Karen Clardy and conducting with Anshel Brusilow (Dallas Symphony Orchestra). She also holds a Bachelor of Music from Texas Tech University, where she studied flute with Francis Bowen and conducting with Paul Ellsworth.
Barbara has spent many years as an active band director, clinician, adjudicator and honor band conductor. She is active in Texas Music Educators Association, conducting woodwind sectionals yearly for the Texas All State Philharmonic Orchestra. She performs with the Roswell (NM) Symphony Orchestra, selected audition music for New Mexico All State, and served twice as the selector for All State flutes in New Mexico. Her other flute activities include presenting clinics and adjudicating flute solos and ensembles across Texas and New Mexico. Additional profession affiliations include Texas Bandmasters Association, National Flute Association, College Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu (International Board of Directors), Women Band Directors International. She has authored numerous articles in The Instrumentalist, Southwestern Musician, Texas Bandmasters Journal, and served many years as Consulting Editor for The Instrumentalist. She has authored two textbooks.
Tau Beta Sigma honored Barbara with their Outstanding Service to Music award; Women Band Directors International voted her into the International Hall of Fame, and Phi Beta Mu inducted her into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame. In 2015 she and her husband Rick, horn professor at UTEP, were chosen as Texas Bandmasters of the Year.
