Scholarships
The Clara Freshour Nelson Music Scholarship
$6000 per year, renewable for up to 4 years.
Requirements

Open to Freshman Music Majors* enrolled full-time at UTEP.

Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.
To apply
The application materials must include all of the items below:

A completed application form. (Typed into the form is preferred.)

Transcript of all completed collegiate work (unofficial accepted), as a PDF file.

Performance audio recording (2-10 minutes) as an MP3 audio file.

One letter of recommendation from a current collegiate faculty. (A faculty member who is not the Music Executive should write this letter.)

A two- to three-page typed essay that is double spaced, 12 pt. font written by the student that addresses the applicant’s educational and professional goals.
*Applicant will be eligible to apply only during the second semester of the freshman year, having completed a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours during the previous fall semester. Dual credit, advanced placement, and/or early admission course work will not count against the second semester freshman standing of the applicant.
Due date
Complete applications for the Freshour Scholarship are due to the Chair of the Department of Music by Friday, April 6, 2018.
The Dr. Donald G. Wilkinson Music Education Scholarship
This $1,000 non-renewable scholarship is for a Junior or Senior Music Education Student who demonstrates excellence in music education, performance and service.
Requirements
Applicants must:

Have a 3.0 or higher GPA,

Play one of the following: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, or saxophone be a music education major, AND
-
Be enrolled in upper level lessons at the time the scholarship is awarded.

Write an essay addressing your success in the music program including course work and performance, their service to the department and the university, and their career goals and aspirations.

Applications are due to the Chair of the Department of Music by May 1 each year.
