510 S. OREGON STREET ROBERT KRAKAUER MEMORIAL
510 S. OREGON STREET - ROBERT KRAKAUER
The Robert Krakauer Memorial was constructed in 1920, in the memory of the son of Jewish businessman, Jacob Krakauer. Jacob Krakauer was an extremely kind and giving person with a grand reputation, as he was the leader of an organization called Associate Charities. The organization then decided to build the memorial to honor Krakauer. Throughout the building’s history, it functioned as a social services center, a location for the homeless, and a childcare center. Henry Trost, the famous El Paso architect, helped construct the building, and engraved “Robert Krakauer Memorial” onto the front of it. Unfortunately, the engravement on the front of the building was removed; however, the building still has an influential past on the community of El Paso.
