Engineering Education and Leadership Track
Like UTEP's vision and mission, the MS-E program track in engineering education and leadership is dedicated to the advancement of the El Paso region through education, creative and entrepreneurial production, and the generation, interpretation, application and commercialization of technology, and the dissemination of engineering education knowledge. The program embraces its role as an intellectual, cultural and socioeconomic asset to the region, offering Engineering Education programs to meet human resource needs and contribute to the quality of life. The program prepares students to make significant contributions to their professions, their communities, and the world. Among our goals it is intended to support developing quality engineering educators and researchers who are prepared to design and implement innovative math, science, engineering, and technology (commonly called STEM) curricula that best serve diverse learners. This is an objective that we share in partnership with the UTEP College of Education.

The Engineering Education and Leadership concentration consists specifically of a student choosing:
- The Four (4) courses (EEL 5310, EEL 5320, EEL 5322, EEL 5390) in the above menu, depending on the offerings each semester, and the teaching of special topics of interest to a student (EEL 5390 may be repeated if different topics), and
- (1) of two capstone experience courses (EEL 5395, EEL 5396) depending upon the individual student interest and trajectory in professional engineering education practice.
The engineering education and leadership (EEL) emphasis is intended to develop quality engineering graduates who are prepared to design and implement innovative curricula that best serve diverse learners. The objective of the EEL master's program is to provide professional development on current engineering education issues, engineering classroom research and assessment skills, and leadership practices.
After successfully completing this course in the MS Eng program, students will be prepared to teach tertiary engineering courses, play leadership roles in STEM education (with a much-needed emphasis on the "E"), including lead professional development efforts in school communities, design and implement solutions to address educational issues, and develop measures to improve ongoing success in engineering education.
Further, completion of the degree plan including these courses provides a pathway for students to apply for, enter and pursue future doctoral degree opportunities in engineering education.
Additionally, completion of the courses in the degree plan coupled with optional education courses provides engineering students opportunities to become dual-credit certified teachers, allowing them to teach engineering courses in K-14; and in particular dual-credit courses in engineering in secondary schools and within the El Paso Community College (EPCC) engineering program.
