Margaret Malamud is a professor of History at NMSU. Her primary research interest is in the classical tradition in the USA. She is the author of Ancient Rome and Modern America (2009) and co-editor of Imperial Projections: Ancient Rome in Modern Popular Culture (2001). She spent two years at the University of Cambridge where she was affiliated with the Classics and American History faculties as a Bye Fellow at Newnham College in 2005-6 and a Visiting Fellow at Wolfson College in 2008. She has received 3 fellowships from the NEH in support of her research, most recently a 2010 award for her current project which explores how African Americans have mobilized knowledge of classical texts and antiquity in their fight for liberty and equality in the American Republic.
